Dress at 15 East

Are dress jeans acceptable in the evening? I currently have a reservation for Nobu 57 (I was heavily influenced by reading here about their desserts) but I am starting to rethink that as it will most likely be our only sushi meal while in NYC this visit. I am strongly considering 15 East but was hoping to dress a bit more casual.

On a side note, would it be feasible to have dessert only at Nobu 57 during their lunch service?

  1. You can wear jeans to 15 East.

You can, and far be it from me to tell anyone what to wear where. But when I ate there, everyone was on the dressed-up side (including me, and that's not my default by a long shot). I'd throw on a fancy-ish sweater or blouse, at least. It's not super-formal, but it is formal-lite.

    2. I have seen Shimizu san bust people's chops for being too dressed up. Most of his regulars at the counter are dressed down, well on the weekdays anyway. I avoid this place on weekends.

      1. I second the jeans. A friend of mine wore jeans and a nice top when she went.

Thanks. I should have been clear that the jeans would be for my husband. We are eating lunch at Le Bernardin earlier that day and he was hoping to throw on jeans for the rest of the day but could easily add a sport coat. I myself don't mind multiple wardrobe changes throughout the day as much.

He can definitely rock the jeans w/ a nice shirt, like a nice button-down or oxford shirt, sort of business casual w/o the jacket and suit. My ex lived near 15 East, so I would walk past quite a bit to and from his place and peek inside sometimes. I would see guys in jeans and a decent shirt (same goes for women). Jeans weren't an issue.

              Mostly agree...

for guys, anything between jeans w/ nice shirt/jacket to an elegant suit would work fine there...it's one of my fav restaurants...(i went a few days ago and wore grey wool pants, a black t-shirt w/ a grey linen overshirt and a long raw-silk scarf...my date wore a silk midnight-blue dress w/ crocodile belt)...

But, while women could get away w/ wearing jeans, i personally (imho) would find it slightly tacky...

        2. I was at Nobu57 recently to try their desserts at the bar. After I placed an order, they did not serve me anything for thirty minutes. Finally I thought there was something wrong, asked them how my order was going, and the bartender told me the dessert I ordered was not available. (Huh? It took them thirty minutes to find that out?) When I picked up my second choice dessert, the bartender told me it was not available either. So I ended up with two plates of very plain desserts that 'WERE' available that day.

If you are traveling to New York, your time in the city will be valuable. So please keep that in mind.

          1. Why don't you have dessert at Tocqueville, the "sister" restaurant to 15 East, a few few away, if the desserts at 15 East don't appeal to you. (I actually think the desserts at 15 East are quite nice, and would continue my stay through sweets.)

            1. I wore jeans last night (Saturday), and no one batted an eye. Plenty of other diners in jeans as well.
