Where to go for Sweet 16 birthday?
Our daughter's 16th birthday is coming up in mid-December. Any suggestions for a Saturday or Sunday afternoon lunch for 6-8 teenage girls and a few parents? A small room would be nice but we also don't want to be ostracized from the vibe of a cool place. Is there a place that could possibly put to together a Menu for a Sweet 16?

If the weather is warm and/or not raining, you might consider Belden Place. A cross between a European street dining scene and Disney (because it's so safe and sanitized). There's 6-7 restaurants, all have indoor seating but the big feature is the outside dining. During the week it does a big lunch business due to the location, so it's not super Disney.

DD recently went to Zero Zero for a friend's 15th birthday and had a great time. On a Saturday, the girls (approx. 14) did a little bit of shopping at Westfield & then gathered here for a late lunch. From DD's description, it appears the restaurant has an open, L shaped 2nd floor that overlooks the ground floor; therefore, they had a semi private dining area.

I agree with Poser . She may want to do something like going to the Jelly Belly Candy Co for a party, or just clowning around with friends at the mall, movies, etc.. What does SHE want to do?

re: BIGGUNDOCTOR
She's 16, not 10. I assumed that for a Sweet Sixteen she'd want something that made her feel like a grown-up: something chic or hip. That Zero Zero idea sounds great: grown-up, but still pizza! In that vein, Piccino followed by ice cream at Mr. and Mrs. Miscellaneous might be fun, and you'd avoid the madness of downtown on the weekend during the holiday season.

re: Ruth Lafler
Well Ruth, I know a lot of adults that get excited about Jelly Bellies, they are gourmet jelly beans after all = ). We were running 300,000+ visitors a year through the plant tours when I left, and they were the top factory tour in America according to Reader's Digest. Herm has invested millions of dollars into that plant specifically for providing an experience for the visitors. It isn't Chucky Cheese.

So much depends on where your daughter's interests currently lie. Is she a budding traveller? Then maybe a great dim sum place or Slanted Door? Is she a fashonista? Lunch at NM's rotunda would be a special treat and their popovers with berry butter should be manna to any 16 year old's palate or is she a young Mission hipster? In which case Foreign Cinema (which is actualy brunch) would be cool-and their homemade poptarts are imho the Missio equivalent of the NM popover :-)
