Memphis: In search of the best combination of Q and easy access/parking

  • 8

Hi all... depending on weather I may be taking the southern route back to Utah from Nashville. I'll be pulling a small trailer, so I don't want to get into too much traffic and I especially don't want any dicey parking situations. Places with their own generous parking or within a block or two of a sizable shopping center would fit the bill. Where's the best Q without getting tangled in traffic with a trailer?

  1. Memphis BBQ is the best in the U. S. but there are very few joints close to I 40 that are convenient for long distance travelers that are usually in a big hurry and like to stop at places close to the IS. Cozy Corner is not too much trouble though.
If you want to stop in Memphis, TN for BBQ I suggest you go to Cozy Corner BBQ due to it's location close to I 40. Right before you cross the Mississippi River get off I 40 at Exit 1B and go N on N Danny Thomas Blvd. Go about 2 blocks and you will pass St. Jude Children's Hospital then take a right on N. Parkway. Go 2 blocks to Cozy Corner for outstanding BBQ.
    Cozy Corner @ 745 N. Parkway, Memphis, TN. 901 - 527 - 9158.

Another alternative would be to take the Germantown Parkway South exit as soon as you get into Memphis and stop at Corky's BBQ @ 1740 South Germantown Parkway (on the left.)

The best ribs I ever ate (bar none) were there.

I've done Corky's and will not return. Too corporate and too much green bell pepper in their side dishes (even a molecule of green bell pepper is too much green bell pepper).

Yeah, stick with Cozy Corner- you won't be disappointed. Another alternative might be Central BBQ on Summer Ave rather than the original on Central. Same food, better parking...

Ditto what Clarkafella said, although I do love me some Corky's.

Thanks for the tip on Central... not familiar with that one. We may just have to do a mini-crawl if we head that way.

The more I think about it, the more I think that it would be a great choice! They have great ribs (some of the best), and the parking would be easy...

Yup... scoped out the menu and checked out the Google satellite. Looks like a cruise down Summer (US 1) will be in order if we go the southern route. Want to do both Central and Cozy Corner. I've done Rendezvous several times as well as Interstate, so looking forward to hopefully adding a couple of new notches to the belt. Thanks for the tip!
