Side dish suggestions for roast duck

I'll be serving roast duck for Thanksgiving dinner. Any side dishes suggestions of recipes that you know would go really well with duck would be much appreciated!

I'd like some kind of potato instead of rice, and if anyone has a good dressing recipe for duck, that would be wonderful. Maybe a fall fruit compote instead of cranberry?

  1. For the starch, gnocchi- perhaps pumpkin and sage. Puree of squash or yam. The puree is great to sweep up with a forkful of duck.
    Cherry compote.
    A good wilted green hits the right note for me. Mustard, chard etc.

    These are the quintessential elements of a great duck dish in my experience.

        The puree would be nice. Another fun option would be spaetzle, too,with nutmeg in the batter. Maybe some maple and balsamic glazed brussels sprouts as a vegetable.

    2. Compote is a good idea, hit it with some lemon juice or vinegar. You need acid to balance the richness of the duck.
