Hot Pot Restaurant Opens in Rosemead; It's Not What You Think It Is

Hot Pot Restaurant is the actual name of a new restaurant that opened up in the old Food Cabin (and previously Asian Gems) location in Rosemead. Immediately walking into the restaurant I was taken aback. Where are the tableside burners? Where are the giant vents? Not that kind of hot pot, I guess. Instead they serve, well, I'm not sure exactly what. There are a number of soupy dishes, some of which aren't described as being soupy. Explicitly soupy items include stewed chicken with gingko, stewed duck with kelp, and sliced fish with preserved vegetables. Soupy though not described as such was the sliced fish with sizzling rice, essentially the sizzling rice with fish soup you see at some Sichuan style restaurants. Also a few other obviously Sichuan or Hunan style dishes on the menu. Hot Pot Restaurant is at 9510 E. Valley Blvd.

Well the former Hot Pots chain (formerly in San Gabriel and Rowland Heights, now down to one location in Cerritos called Clay Plots) specialized in those baked rice dishes. But that doesn't seem to be on the menu at Hot Pot Restaurant in Rosemead.
