Detroit and suburbs - great place for older parents that would be special?

I seem to write to this board every couple of years with this question, and have really appreciated the answers I've gotten. The last two years I went with the steakhouse suggestion I got here, and my parents loved it (unfortunately can't remember the name of the place right now - but I believe it is west of Detroit). I'd like to get my parents a gift certificate to someplace nice; a place they might not take themselves. Live jazz or big band music would be a plus. I just want them to have a night when they feel special. Does anything come to mind? Thanks very much in advance,

  1. If you want to go top-drawer/price no object, The Lark in West Bloomfield. One of the top restaurants in the state, family owned, warm and professional service and just wonderful food. It's a real event to dine there, not hurried, lovely rustic atmosphere. Very memorable experience.

That sounds fantastic. Thank you so much.

    2. the clawson steak house might be the perfect place

it is an old school steak house and it is very popular with the older/senior crowd. decent food and they have music and dancing wednesday through saturday.

i have a good friend whose dad is in his 70's and loves to live life to the fullest and have a good time. the clawson steak house with his wife of 50+ years is his idea of a great night out on the town.

i have made this recommendation here for a similar request. it may have even been for you.

I bet it was, and it is exactly the place I sent them the last two years. They love it. I just thought I might want to try something different this year, keep up the element of surprise. But definitely - that place pushed all the right buttons for them.
