Emily Dickinson in Tucson!
Last week I was reading somewhere about Emily Dickinson's Coconut Cake recipe, and Lo and Behold! - her cake shows up at the B-Line Cafe on Saturday! It was a bit heavy (old recipes can be like that) but very tasty. I could tell that the ingredient were just like what I read, and the baker was clever to figure out the technique (which Dickinson did not elaborate with any details, according to the article).
Then yesterday I found Emily Dickinson's fruit cake at Maynard's! Boozy and delicious, not too fruity for you fruitcake-haters. I haven't seen any of these pastries in the SF Bay Area where I live - Tucson is so poet-forward!
BTW: If you haven't been to Maynard's Farmer's Market Sunday dinners, I highly recommend them: lots of fresh, delicious food served family-style at a communal table so that even if you go alone it"s a party.
