Suggestions near TCU

I will be touring TCU with my son next week and would love some suggestions for restaurants close to campus. Interested in the student hang-outs (with good food, of course) but also a nicer place for dinner. We love all types of food but are especially interested in things that we can't readily get in NYC, such as BBQ, Mexican, Tex-Mex, sousthwest, etc. But open to anything.

We'll also be driving from College Station to Ft. Worth so any suggestions for places to stop along the way for a good bite are appreciated as well.

Couple other places you might want to look at are Lili's Bistro and Yucatan Taco Stand on Magnolia. For brunch (if you'll be here on the weekend) you could try Sapristi on Forest Park. I'm an alum but I try to avoid student hangouts ... what can I tell you. I like to eat my food in peace & quiet ;) I do go get my Fuzzy's fix occasionally ... recommend the shrimp or pork. The cafe at the Modern is also good. For Tex-Mex, try the Mexican Inn on 8th Ave (recommend the arroz con pollo or taco salad, which I order half-beef/half-beans off menu) or Dos Gringos on University (the cheese enchiladas are a guilty pleasure). The Mexican Inn makes their own masa fresh daily, and from there their chips and tortillas, which are what's really worth going for. TCU's a great school, btw ;)

Here's a great list to get you started. Fuzzy's is a TCU "institution" (and this one is the original) as is Dutch's.

      In downtown's Sundance Square, Reata. Weather permitting - today's high, 86 - enjoy a rooftop, pre-dinner cocktail. http://www.reata.net/fort-worth-restaurant.html

North of downtown, in Fort Worth's Historic Stockyards - Lonesome Dove Western Bistro won't disappoint. http://www.lonesomedovebistro.com/

Fuzzy's Taco (near campus, serves fish tacos and such, very casual)

Blue Mesa Grill (on University, serves southwest fusion type food, nice atmosphere and food)

Lonesome Dove (celebrity chef Tim Love's nicer restaurant in the Stockyards)

Railhead BBQ (alot of people like them)

Texas de Brazil (Brazilian steakhouse in downtown)

Mi Cocina (upscale TexMex in downtown)

Reata (upscale "western" food in downtown)

Joe T Garcia's (Tex Mex, Ft. Worth institution, cash only)

Esparanza's (Tex Mex, related to Joe T's)

          Lanny's Kitchen (upscale Mexican)

Nonna Tata (homeade Italian, very small place)

Lucile's Bistro (good variety-pizzas, sandwiches, lobster bisque, chicken fried steak type food)

You are only a few minutes away from Central Market (the best "gourmet" grocery store that Texas has, it will not disappoint)

It's across the freeway from campus but Chimy's is a super casual cool place.

Went to Fuzzy's on Rufe Snow this weekend. It was my first Fuzzy's visit. It was terrible! Barely edible; everything had a vinegar taste and the beans were canned! Total Yuck!
