What are your favorite New Mexican restaurants in Northern NM -- FOR SPECIFIC DISHES?
It occurred to me that when we debate back and forth here about New Mexican restaurants, we may be ordering very different things, which could partly explain why responses often tend to be so different. Just because a place makes a killer stack of green chile enchiladas doesn't mean they have the first clue about making a great carne adovada burrito, sopaipilla, etc.
So once more into the breech...what are your favorite NM restaurants for specific items?
A few of mine to begin:
Chiles Rellenos - Mary & Titos (ABQ)
Carne Adovada - El Rancho de Chimayo (Chimayo)
Margaritas - The Shed (Santa Fe)
Breakfast Burrito - Frontier (ABQ)
Huevos Rancheros [by proxy from my better half] - Sadie's (ABQ)
How about you?
Carne Asada plate, Mariscos Altimar, ABQ
Chorizo Breakfast Special, (Mex. place in the middle of town, across from the Shell station/C store, west side of road in Las Vegas), wish they'd kick the heat up in the winter though.
All the Blakes Lotaburgers.
I love this thread, mainly because I think there are a number of restaurants around town that do one or two things really, really well but may not have the broadest range. Here are some of my favorite spots for specific items (all in Santa Fe):
Enchiladas - The Shed/La Choza
Breakfast Burrito - Plaza Cafe/Tesuque Village Market
Red Chile - Atrisco
Green Chile - Plaza Cafe/Tesuque Village Market
Margaritas - Maria's/Rio Chama/The Cantina (at Coyote Cafe)
Green Chile Cheeseburger - Bobcat Bite
Another slightly different spin on the topic is restaurants that do one dish extraordinarily well, even if it's not a NNM standard. My two favorite entries under that heading are:
Green chile brisket melt - Hidden Chicken
Roast lamb burrito with red chile - Atrisco
Bobcat Bite Restaurant
420 Old Las Vegas Hwy, Santa Fe, NM 87505
Hidden Chicken Cafe

Atrisco Cafe and Bar
