Definitely Sam Woo. Great roast duck, roast pork. Excellent calamari. I think best, most authentic Chinese in Valley by far (at least in Mid to East Valley; have not tried any Chinese west of Encino).

Tampa Gardens and Sam Woo are both that I'd consider to be worthy. Each is different. Sam Woo offers a broad range of Cantonese cuisine - the bbq is the most obvious when you walk in. Roast duck, roast or soy sauce chicken, (can't remember if they offer Peking duck) and char siu are always offered, but to me, the star is the roast pork.

Tampa Gardens offers a lot of the "adapted Chinese" dishes that one would expect from a brown sauce Chinese take out, but also offers a fair amount of Northern-ish dishes like various dumplings, buns, pancakes and noodles (think cat ear noodles). They're a family run place where the matron truly appreciates folks who come in and ask for such items. She might even surprise you with other dishes off-menu to reciprocate her enthusiasm for foods more traditionally Chinese in nature.

        2. Definitely suggest Tampa Gardens...service can be slow but i love the noodles like cats ears, chow fun, xlb...etc and it feels good patronizing this family owned spot!
