Short notice - Brooklyn Museum tomorow - anything chow-worthy?

My gal (New Englander) has never been to Brooklyn. We're heading up tomorow from central NJ. Loose plan is to see the Brooklyn Museum, and a walk along the promenade. Driving in via Verrazzano Bridge. Can we work in an hour or so in an Italian neighborhood not too far from from 278? Anything open Sunday? Pastries? I apologize for the short notice. Thanks!

  1. You could probably head to Villabate, either on your way into Brooklyn or back home. Great for pastries and Gelato, and open on Sundays.

It's a bit out of the way from 278, but easy enough, and worth it.
    have fun!

Villabate (if you go there) is probably easier coming into town. - GPS is your friend, from there can could head up 18th/Bay Parkway/Ocean Parkway to get toward Prospect Park and the museum - recommend a stroll through the botanic garden - great color now.. You could even catch a quick pizza lunch at say L&B before your visit to Villabate. Lots of good bakeries, cheese shops etc peppering that area, including Frank and Sals, Coluccio, Il Fornaretto, etc. but they are mostly not open past 4 pm.

Carroll Gardens is fairly near the Promenade - with some Italian shops and restaurants. If you want pizza after, Lucali is open Sunday, at least in the eve. Catania Cafe on Atlantic Ave has also been favorably discussed here - open sunday -bare bones, not fancy place, could be worth a visit for both sweet and savory sicilian food. Im not sure what other Italian places are open sunday in the Carroll Gardens area, but Fairway Supermarket in Red Hook is a good foodie stop for cheese and olive oils, etc. as well as an overwhelming assortment of other items.
