Cotogna - large party question

I tried to make a reservation for a department holiday dinner in Dec. for 7 people the other day. I had heard good things about Cotogna and really wanted to try it. They said they could accomodate 7 of us at their large table, but that it would be a minimum of $750 for the table. I thought this was pretty outrageous (I am not sure how you could spend that much for 7 people). Am I the only one that thinks this was a bit extreme? Needless to say I am on the hunt for another place for our celebration.

Sorry - I don't think that is extreme.

It is typical for a restaurant to tack on the 18% or more up-charge for parties over six and with food, tax, tip and alcohol, I think a little over $100 person is about the going rate.

Also, it is the holidays and a lot of people make multiple reservations for large tables for parties and then don't show up at the last minute. Sad, but true -- and it ruins it for the rest of us that are trying to arrange holiday parties. But that is the way of the restaurant industry.

That's their communal table, which seats eight? ten? $750 is probably how much they would expect to gross if they used it in the usual way. Try Barbacco.
