Goat Tacos In Austin Texas

After eating a brace of goat tacos at La Fruta Feliz this week it set me to thinking.

Are there 7 places in Austin serving goat tacos?

Where are y'all going to get your goat fix these days?

And if you're on the East Side, La Fruta Feliz is straight "A" game these days.

  1. I'm sure you know this Scrumptious, but El Azteca comes to mind... though I'm not sure if they offer tacos or just flautas.

    1. What are the other 6 places?

I've been getting cabrito at El Borrego de Oro, but that's just a quick fix. A friend likes the goat tacos at Taco More.

We'll get a running tally. I doubt we can hit 7 but we'll try

1] La Fruta Feliz, have a hard time seeing someone beat them for quality

2] El Borrego de Oro, love the mutton here but have never had the goat

3] Taco More, loved them when they were next door to Kebab Palace [wish I knew what happened to that chef-best rice I ever ate in a restaurant] but have only visited the new location a couple times. Thanks for the tip Joe Mac

4] A buddy of mine saw this post and called me and said he's getting his goat fix up on Anderson Mill at a rundown little dive restaurant called Taqueria Zacatlan...sounds promising.

oh, yeah, El Azteca does not honor the taco format for goat

5] Another friend saw the post and mentioned a goat taco cart parked next to the Mexican flea market on 290 ten minutes east of Austin

I got my goat on at Taco More this week. While the goat taco is good, it must be said that the consome de cabrito is spectacular. For $2.50, you get a 12oz cup full of the rich and bold broth. Lurking at the bottom is a generous amount of shredded meat and chickpeas. It's a dish that makes me wish for cold, rainy, blustery days ahead.

              Ok I'm salivating now.....

        2. I'm glad to hear that La Fruta Feliz is still going strong--used to love that place. You all make sure to enjoy the cornucopia of tacos you have available while you can. I've now been in the NE for several years, where there is excellent Italian and other options, but good tacos and BBQ joints are few and far between. Missing Austin this dreary morning!

          1. I had some good goat out in Apache Shores recently:

bwahahaha you are so bad, rb.

            2. La Casita serves up delicious goat tacos on home made corn tortillas . . and don't skip their quacamole, always fresh and tasty. Tres cheap with cute servers !!

1.99 and at dinner if you spend more than 6 bucks you get free tea. 4 goat tacos and tea for 10 bucks including a good tip? not bad.

La Casita's namesake somewhere in the midwest serves up some mighty fine sounding Cochinita Bill - I had to laugh. I found this looking for our La Casita's menu.
