I am part of a group going to Heartland for the 1st time this evening. I was wondering if there is anything you all would suggest - I am up for anything. I know the menu changes on a daily basis but was still looking to see what the chowhound experts think! I apologize if there is already a link for this elsewhere - thanks for any and all help! Have a great weekend! Ciao!
Their cassoulet has always been good (though I haven't had the current iteration of it). Otherwise, I haven't had too much of their current menu (or variation of yesterday's), but if you go with either prix fixe menu you'll generally get a good tasting of the best of what's available at a more reasonable price vs. a la carte.
Their housemade sausages are generally very good, as are the rillettes and burger.
We were there last Saturday. It was fabulous. For apps, the lardo was yummy, and something I would never make at home! I had the cassoulet and took about half of it home. It was a lot and very flavorful--lots of different meats and sausage, but all identifiable with their own flavors. The cauliflower was very good, well seasoned, well cooked and also not a small portion. Enjoy your evening. Saturday was my first time in the new space and it did not disappoint in any way. The bill was impressive, but so was the food and the service.
The soups are outstanding.
They often have fish from Lake Superior on the menu, and it is usually good.
