Del Posto but not Del Posto
My boss has some clients coming to town. They are rich guys, a couple of them a little boisterous. They went to Del Posto last time around, loved it, and now I have to find another restaurant with that same vibe - big space, sort of masculine atmosphere, great food. It should have a fantastic wine list as the big guy is a wine buff and there should be some hope of me getting a reservation for 6 there on this coming Tuesday night.
Any thoughts? Any? At all? Pretty please?

Maybe an early table at Minetta Tavern?
Call up The Dutch or Locanda Verde?
Tertulia takes reservations only for big parties--you may luck out.
Casa Mono has a table at 5:30 on OT. DBGB at 6:45, Public 6:30 or 7:45, Saxon and Parole 6:30...

"...and now I have to find another restaurant with that same vibe - big space, sort of masculine atmosphere, great food."
Although I like Casa Mono, how does it fit into the first two criteria the OP has sited; especially the first! The only reason I point this out kathryn is because some of the responses have gotten far away from what the OP is looking for.

I don't think the atmosphere is particularly feminine and there's big portions, a loud room, lots of meat on the menu at Casa Mono. It's a Batali restaurant.
Given how late the OP is booking I think the criteria should be more driven by where they can actually get a table...

Yes, but it is far from a "big space." From what the OP describes, I don't think these men will feel comfortable in the cramped space. Have you been to Del Posto? The place is huge and the "vibe" (as the OP states) is quite different from Casa Mono. It is grand scale and luxurious. Lastly, as a 6-ft. 200 lb. man I would have to say the portions are far from "big" as you state; they are tapas portions.

Good point. We don't know how big or heavy the diners are.
To clarify: Casa Mono's portions are big for tapas portions.

Casa Mono's portions are tiny, even by tapas standards. Some are so small, they can't be shared even with two people. It's Batali's version of a clown car.

Looks good, but too far on the Upper West and not current enough for these guys.

Maybe Kenmare? The Lion if you're more about the atmosphere than food.
Strip House isn't a grand room, but it has tables set for large groups, and would be worth looking into. They also sound like a group who could really enjoy that Minetta Tavern suggestion.

Try Valbella NYC, it def. meet your requirements. It's steak/seafood/Italian, big wine cave, big space for big men with big wallets, lol. Or what about the Tom Coliccio place next to Del Posto? Big space w/ big wine wall, lots of drama (in a good way!).

Wow, that does in fact look absolutely perfect for these guys, so of course it is closed for a private party on Tuesday night. Anything other recommendations like this place?

Which one was perfect? Valbella or Collichio & Sons? C&S has tables available from 9:00 onward, if they have a PP it must be over by then. (Also, I second the recommendation for C&S)
Right across the street from DP and C&S is Morimoto. If the wine maven wants to explore some expensive artisanal sakes, they could work - and the scene is very boisterous.
Or, since you've got 6 people, you could always book yourself one of the large-format dinners at Momofuku Ssam Bar. Bo Ssam or Duck Ssam. They've got great cocktails, and a solid (if not terribly extensive) wine list. Same could be said for Ma Peche - you could do the "Beef Seven Ways" dinner if they're cool with doing a set tasting menu.
Or nearby, Hearth - their wine list is pretty incredible. It's a bit more sedate than Ssam Bar, sure, but it's not "white tablecloth" sedate.

Just a head's up...Valbella's menus looks very Italian American to me as compared to Del Posto which interprets true Italian regional cuisine.

Scarpetta is excellent. FYI the restaurant now has branches in Beverly Hills, Miami, and other locations, which may or may not be a factor for your clients.

Any of the top Steak places would fit the bill. My personal favorite is Strip House.
Maybe one of the Asian spots like Tao or Buddhakan would work, especially all the eye candy there.

You can't reserve in the Tavern Room, IIRC. It'd be a pretty long wait for a 6-top more than likely.
