Tips for Dining, Eating, and Food Shopping in Manhattan

PANCAKES TIMES SQUARE-MIDTOWN or CENTRAL PARK SOUTH

Visiting NYC with the whole family next weekend and I promised my daughter (6 years old) that after two days of eating at more adult restaurants (Momofuku Ssam Bar, DBGB, etc.) that we would have “the best pancakes in the world” on Sunday morning before we leave that afternoon.

After a little research I found the following locations per random searches and I was hoping to get pointed in the right direction from local Chowhounders:

Restaurant: Pershing Square
Address: 90 E 42nd St, New York, NY 10017

Restaurant: The Red Flame Diner
Address: 67 West 44th St New York, NY 10036

Restaurant: Junior’s
Address: 1515 Broadway New York, NY 10036

Ideally we would like to stay near our hotel in the Times Square-Midtown area or near Central Park South area since we will be heading that direction to spend the morning in the park but if there is a place that is worth the trip (with in reason) we will make it. No Chains please.

Thanks in advance,

B.A.T.

  1. Well, the best pancakes in the city are at Clinton St Baking Company on the Lower East Side. They beat the egg whites separately, and fold them in at the last second. The pancakes are very fluffy, and also served with a side of melted maple butter. However, the line is likely to be very long on Sunday morning. They open at 9am. I suggest getting there at 8:30am.

I've heard good things about the ones at Untitled, Danny Meyer's restaurant at the Whitney on the UES.

For something closer, not Sarabeth's on Central Park South?

    1. Sure they're $19, but I'd expect the pancakes at Nougatine to be pretty frickin' amazing. They probably accept reservations.
