NGAM is meh.

  • 0

On the recommendation of another thread here on CH, I checked out ngam on 13th and 3rd last night. I had been hesitant because the yelp reviews were "shilly". I mean, every time I walk by, its empty. If it was that good, surely there would have been some buzz by now...I wish that I had trusted my initial instinct to stay far away.

930pm on a Monday, music is literally BLARING which sucks, but there are actually people eating here, which makes me feel a little better.

Wife had the papaya pad thai, which actually was pretty good. Like a moo-shu cabbage pad thai.
I had the pork belly on the suggestion of the waiter. Wrong choice altogether. Absolutely zero edible meat from the belly. I have never had this happen when I have ordered belly before. I mean even at the cheapo sichuan places you get some meat along with the fat. It was gross. Overly sweet, served on a bed of red cabbage slaw that literally looked like loose stool. Not appealing at all.

Waitstaff equally needs extensive training, but it is clear that the owner/chef dont seem interested in doing anything about it. Both were there last night, and while we were trying to flag down our waiter to get a check to leave (which took 20 minutes, no lie), both saw us, and ignored us. The chef was on her cell phone for a good 25 minutes of the visit, and the owner was just scrambling from the back room up to the bar over and over again with no real purpose that we could ascertain.

For the same price point, there is Ssam bar around the corner, for great thai we have zaab elee, and if you want "fancy" apiary is 2 streets down.

AVOID.
