Cuba Linda, New in Concord
[NOTE: We've split this from the thread titled "Any Gems in LaMorinda" here: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/816263 -- The Chowhound Team]
I began working in Concord 2 years ago and have CH folks to thank for helping me find several great places in the area. So I want to let you know about a place that opened a few months ago in downtown Concord called Cabalinda Cafe. I believe you will find it worth a try.
It is light and airy and the folks who work there have the enthusiasm that comes with one's own cafe. They are polite and positive. I have tried their sandwichesincluding 'pan con bistek' and 'sandwich Cubano' (pork) which are heavenly. But the most amazing thing to me is that they sell home made croquetas and Papa Rellenas that are just exquisite. How much does it cost to get something this exquisite I hear you ask? One dollar each. How can they sell them at that price I have no idea but please try them if you go. The first time i went there, they had just opened and were very apologetic because their rice was not ready to serve with my delicious Ropa Vieja, so they gave me a couple of croquetas and Papa Rellena to hold me over along with a wonderful mango ice tea - free. That was it. Now I return often. I think you will too if you give this place a try.
Stopped in to Cuba Linda for the first time this week. Their Cubano is a tasty example of the Cuban classic sandwich. Roast pork, ham, swiss cheese, pickles, mustard, on a roll, pressed flat and served hot. The tropical fruit shake was light and refreshing. Bollitos, chick pea fritters, were heavy and bland. Sweet cuban coffee (no milk) in tiny cups was great. Prices are reasonable. Quality is high. Concord is not my neighborhood but I'll be back to try more tasty Cuban specialties.
