Possible jasmine rice shortage

According to radio news, the disastrous flooding in Thailand has essentially wiped out the crop.
Brown jasmine rice is my favorite rice so I bought an extra bag this week in anticipation of its becoming unavailable. Of course it does go rancid over time so one can't stockpile unless a lot of freezer space is available. I hope I don't sound too callous since there is so much suffering there, which I do not mean to dismiss. But running out of rice here does nothing to affect that problem one way or the other.

As far as I know, rice harvest season was over. Unless the warehouses are flooded.

The rice is now farmed 3 times a year. The growing season can get started right after the water recedes. I'm hoping for the best for friends and family back at home.
