I'd love to get some restaurant recommendations within walking distance of the Smithsonian for our group. I'd like something a bit on the nicer side. A private room would be great, but certainly isn't neccessary.

Doesn't really matter as long as it's somewhat close to that area of town, but we will be at the Museum of American History.

ok that's the North side of the mall, many more options than the South. do a search of this board under "Penn Quarter" or "Ford's Theater" and you'll find a lot of great suggestions.
sorry I asked you to be more specific, but the museums spread over a wide wide area and walking distance in what very well may be bad weather can mean so many things.

I'd recommend Bibiana, up at 12th and H - very good Italian, and they have a couple of private rooms.

Central has a private room and is right off of the Mall. Really good food and they might even help you compose a set menu (if price is an issue).
