Mori Sushi Vs. Nobu Malibu

Hi everyone!

I am new to the boards. I have been reading forever, but just decided to join and participate and become a full fledged chowhound:-) Anyway, I am taking my husband out on a surprise birthday date this Friday, and would like your advice! We have a 10 month olf baby and haven't been out at all since he was born, so I really want to make it special. I want to take him out for sushi as that is what we have been missing most. I have been reading the boards and found that I wanted to do the omakase at Mori, but then I have a friend that keeps raving about Nobu, and I know that it's one of the more famous places; Mori not being so famous, only being more well known to sushi lovers it seems. Apparently omakase at Mori ranges from $90-180 per person, and at Nobu, $90-140, so it seems to be semi on par with each other. I want your advice, however. In terms of quality of food and experience, which do you think are better?? Thank you!!

Thanks, guys! I was leaning toward Mori anyway, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't making the wrong decision. I'm so excited to try the omakase! How much does it normally go for? They gave me a very broad spectrum, from like $80-180...

      Mori by a long shot.

Most people rave about Nobu in Malibu because they get to rub elbows with Hollywood glitterati, Mori is the better sushi restaurant.

        Definitely Mori over Nobu.
If you are looking for a more scene-y Nobu restaurant, Matsuhisa then.

Mori Sushi in Dana Point (which is no longer in business) had nothing to do with the one in Los Angeles on Pico Blvd. (and as budlit so succinctly put it - Mori is the place you want to go).
