Tips for Dining, Eating, and Food Shopping in Manhattan

Need Midtown restaurant for business dinner. 20 people, age ranges 33-55. Italian, steaks, american. avg per head $50

looking to host a business dinner for about 20 people in 3 weeks. People are from all over the US. Something other than Carmine's would be preferable (did that many times before and gets touristy).

  1. What are you including in that number? If everyone gets a high-end appetizer, high-end entree, drink or two, and you add tax and tip, there aren't many worthwhile places that will fit under $50 a head. But if it's just a few apps for the group, a mix of high & low priced entrees, a drink per person, and tax and tip, this opens up much of the city. For groups wanting a solid, moderate priced Italian, I and many others on this board love Trattoria Trecolori which is in the Theater District. It's smaller, a bit less touristy and classier than Carmine's. My favorite place for groups, over by Penn Station, is Tir na nog (http://www.tirnanognyc.com), a terrific upscale Irish-American pub that has several areas set off from the main restaurant for groups your size. Another in that direction is Seven Bar and Grill (http://www.sevenbarandgrill.com), which has outstanding food and a terrific area for groups upstairs, but it would be at the outer limit of your budget. Further uptown, Brickyard Gastropub (http://www.brickyardnyc.com) has a nice backroom for groups, an innovative American menu, and outstanding craft beer and wine, and could easily fall within your budget.

Thanks Kevin for your reply and recommendations. Brickyard and Seven look great. After speaking with the higer ups, seems we can move the per head up to $75. What else is a NYC staple for a group of this size? How is the SideCar at PJ Clarkes on 55th/3rd?

      Thanks,
      ST

Sidecar is terrific. Depending on the date you have in mind, your choice may come down to simply choosing the best place that's available; you're looking for the start of holiday party season. I'd suggest you start calling around to a list of 5-10 places; you may find that only 2-3 are available.

          Thanks Kevin. Sidecar it is!

    2. Palm in midtown east would fit the bill too.
