My First New Kitchen -- Puzzled by Fan Filter

Just got a long overdue kitchen renovation done in my rowhouse in Philadelphia. It looks lovely with travertine tile and copper countertops.

Used Maytag gas stove and microwave with built-in vent fan. As it's a small kitchen, the stove had to go against a brick wall so no room to do an outside vent.

Yesterday I cooked a steak on high heat in a cast iron pan. Yes, it smoked up the kitchen. The fan immediately told me I needed to clean the filter.

Today I removed and washed the filter above the cook top. Still getting the same message.

I'm stumped and would appreciate any advice.

  1. Sometimes the filter warning light needs to be turned off by pushing one or a combination of filter buttons. Thats how mine works. it gives me a filter needs to be cleaned warning light. I wash the filters, warning light stays on. It turns out that I have to push a couple of buttons on the filter and hold them down to reset the warning light.
Google the make/model and you'll find the answer, guaranteed. Its probably in the owner's manual, too...
