Mongolian Grill - Columbia, MD

One of my and my fiancee's favorite places, the Mongolian Grill, in Columbia is gone! We were just there about a month ago and tried to go on Saturday but they're totally vanished with some signage about a new restaurant coming soon. Does anyone know what happened?!

Yeah but that's like an hour away from us! Why aren't there more Mongolian grills?!

They used to be pretty popular - nearly every shopping mall had one, but I guess they went out of style with the trend toward healthy (as opposed to all you can stand) eating. I guess Tony Cheng's in Chinatown is still going, but that's a long way from Columbia.

I think Mongolian grills are pretty healthy since you're able to choose exactly what you do and don't want in your dish. I always liked to make a big bowl of cabbage w/ some pork, sesame oli, garlic, green onions, and a little salt and pepper! SOOOO good!!

Sure, this can be healthy eating, but you have to factor in human nature. When you can take as much as you think you can eat, eat many people tend to pile on the beef, lamb and pork, and put in a few token veggies. And then go back for thirds and fourths, saving room, of course, for that faux cheesecake for dessert. ;)

You can try Fogo De Chao in Baltimore same concept

What? Fogo de Chao is an expensive Brazillian steakhouse, not at all like Mongolian Grill. Reportedly MG lost its lease and the space will soon be filled by Mango Grove and Mirchi Wok, which lost their location (the two are owned by the same people) on Dobbin Road. On the MG front, some of the newer Asian buffets around include a Mongolian Grill-type station along with the usual sushi and steam table Chinese, though not as extensive as Mongolian Grill's.
