Looking for a Cozy Tavern

We're on a mission to try to find a cozy tavern - the kind of place that has New England charm, a fireplace, a nice bar/pub, good food, etc. We love the GW Tavern in Washington, CT (http://www.gwtavern.com/), but haven't been able to find anything like it elsewhere in New England. We travel from Boston to northern New England pretty regularly, and would love to find a cozy pub/tavern/inn type of place for lunch or dinner. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated - thanks.

  1. The Birch Ridge Inn at Killington, VT might be what you're looking for. Christmastime they put a gigantic tree in the A-frame part of the pub. There is a big stone fireplace and a small pub. Dinner is excellent. Carrot ginger soup!

    Birch Ridge Inn
37 Butler Rd, Killington, VT 05751

    1. Bedford Village Inn in Bedford NH--check out the Tavern room http://www.bedfordvillageinn.com/new-... The Mile Away in Milford NH has a gorgeous walk-in fireplace in the main room The food is good, not great but very reasonable http://mileawayrestaurant.com/. Further north, The Corner House in Center Sandwich is well regarded in a lovely colonial town http://www.cornerhouseinn.com/.

      Mile Away Restaurant
52 Federal Hill Rd, Milford, NH 03055

      Bedford Village Inn
2 Olde Bedford Way, Bedford, NH 03110

      1. The "Whale's Tooth Pub" Lincolnville Beach, Maine just north of Camden on Rte One.
An old brick house on the ocean, original walk-in size fireplace with a cheery wood fire.
Small and can be busy (hey, it's good!) Has a nice little bar (would suggest a local brew Andrew's pale ale) with excellent kitchen fare. Just enough cozy tables either away or near the beverages.
        My favorite little place.
