Help us find a Cozy Tavern!

We're on a mission to find a cozy tavern with good food. Ideally it would be within reasonable driving distance of Boston, have a fireplace, and New England charm. We love the GW Tavern in Washington, CT (http://www.gwtavern.com/), and haven't been able to find anything like it in Mass. or NH. We would appreciate any suggestions - thanks!

Red House in Harvard Square has a fireplace, and while it probably is too fancy to be considered a tavern, the bar area where the fireplace is might just fit the bill.

Jame's Gate in JP is great, friendly, has a fireplace, and good food.

Hoolese is right-- James's Gate fits the bill. Also try the The Druid in Inman Square-- no fireplace, but great food and very warm and cozy. Duxbury may be too far, but the Winsor House may work for you. Decent food, very cozy, English-style feel, in a house that's a couple hundred years old.

The Druid was my pick as well--the Irish warmth makes up for lack of a fireplace, and the food is outstanding.

I also like The Druid and James's Gate. Another one to think about is Townsends in Hyde Park, which is a quiet, slightly more upscale Irish pub/restaurant with great food.

Tavern at the End of the World too. Great beer list, great fish and chips, great atmosphere, and nice folks.
