I would head to Eastern Market...there are a bunch of options in that area. I like Matchbox and Cava. I also hear good things about Ted's Bulletin.

Also a little closer to the Capitol there is Good Stuff Eatery for delicious burgers and shakes (I personally prefer the turkey burger).

Well I don't have kids but my brothers and sisters do so I would suggest-

Tortilla Coast, Tex Mex, a Cap Hill standard place and kids love Mexican
We The Pizza, kids love pizza
      Matchbox, kids love pizza again
Johnny's Half Shell, seafood, more upscale than the others

Tortilla Coast and Matchbox highly recommended

If you're going to do pizza, We The Pizza is closer to the Capitol than Matchbox..........and you can get great shake for dessert next door at Good Stuff. Matchbox pizza/sauce is a bit spicier.

We the Pizza makes some pretty good sodas, some of which are unusual flavors (the coconut soda is pretty good, for example). I'm really bummed out that they discontinued their coffee-flavored soda, which sounds gross but was actually my favorite.

It stinks that they and Good Stuff aren't open on Sundays. My folks come visit and want to try it, but usually the timing works out that a Sunday is best and we can't go!

            Grrr
