Decent Bagels in Jackson Heights?
Do they exist? I would kill for someplace the equivalent of Russ & Daughters, but I'd settle for just a bagel joint, a real bagel joint.

Nope. There's a sort of OK place in Woodside at 58th St. and Woodside next to the McDonalds. Better places up in Astoria and off Queens Blvd. much further to the east. But that's about it. Just no population to support such a thing in JH.

Really? I would think if you hand roll, boil and bake them, they will come. Jackson Heights is ripe for a *good* bagel place and a *good* Chinese restuarant.

There's a bagel place in Sunnyside . I forget what it was called, but it's right on Queens Boulevard.
You could try making your own bagels. Very easy almost no-knead dough that you leave overnight.

Have you tried Juju on 76th St? Not great, but definitely decent.

I forgot about that place. Went there only once not too long after they opened and it took so them so long to take and execute simple orders from the people in line in front of me, and they seemed to be operating in such a state of deep confusion, that I left without getting anything after nearly 20 minutes of waiting. I sort of wrote them off as amateur night, figured they wouldn't last long, and forgot about them (seemed more like a Middle Eastern deli with some bagels than an actual NY bagel joint too). Glad to see that they've lasted though, and hopefully they've ironed out the service problems. I'll go back over there and give them another shot some day soon.

They have great salads, hummus and stuff. The bagels are doable conduits for bringing the goodies. i keep getting the egg salad and olives.

My go-to bagel place in Jackson Heights is Bagel House on Northern Blvd and 90th Street. It's a bit out of the way, but they are definitely the best this side of Ditmars Blvd. Not Russ & Daughters by a long shot, but they have different kinds of cream cheese and a good selection of bagels. I usually have one with walnut-raisin cream cheese (way too much cream cheese) if I'm home to move my car on Wednesdays, and I take a couple home for later since they freeze well.
