casual place for large group

morisaur Nov 5, 2011 02:05 AM

i'm inviting a group of friends to meet up on a friday evening. the idea is to pick a time and place where we can get dinner and then stick around for drinks, maybe relocating to somewhere in the area at a later point.

i'm inviting a little more than 20 people. my guess is that no more than 10 will show up for dinner. more people will probably show up for drinks, but probably not all at the same time. the main thing is that with this amount of people, i need somewhere pretty casual where people can drop in, where there is enough room, and where the food is good. somewhere in williamsburg or in the ev or les would be the most convenient for most of the people who would be coming.

my ideas: mable's smokehouse, the commodore, hill country, or maybe radegast (although i've heard the food is bad?).

are these places any good/big enough?

for drinks i was thinking somewhere like union pool could work, but if it's too cold there isn't really a lot of room inside, so i'm reconsidering.

    Maybe DBGB?

If you like Asian inspired food and are considering the West Village you might try Wong on Cornelia Street. It's not that crowded yet so the staff might let your group have one of the communal tables. The food is excellent.

dbgb could work but i don't know if you can really drop in there? they always look pretty crowded and i don't really know how many people are going to end up coming on time or how many people are going to actually want to eat.

haven't been by wong but it seems less casual than what i'm looking for.
