Good, reasonable dinner with 14 year old girl.

  • 4

I am looking for a good place to eat, in the East 50-60's with my teenage daughter. Reasonably priced, American, French, Greek or Italian.
I was thinking Bistro Chat Noir, but I have been there, and would like to try something different.

  1. What kind of atmosphere and foods do you think she would especially like?...that area does not contain any of my usual haunts, but a couple months ago i had a solid and reasonably priced meal at the French bistro Jubilee, though i prob wouldn't have recommended it if you hadn't specified that area...like many places in that region, the clientele is on the older side, though it has a noirish vibe that would either make it fun or might just seem odd and gloomy :)

However, knowing a bit about the likes of other teenage girls, albeit slightly older teenage girls, i'd say to make her really happy: hop in a cab to a different, more fun neighborhood...if that's an option, go to Cercle Rouge in Tribeca...or DBGB on Bowery...or Balthazar (maybe pricier than reasonable depending on your definition of reasonable)...Malatesta in the far West Village (quite cheap and very charming)...or Dell' Anima in the West Village...or go to Snack in the Soho...or even Lucky Strike...the cost of the cab fare out of the E.50/60's to a more fun part of town is likely to be well worth it, imho...

      Thank you.
I lived in NYC for years, but we moved to Florida years ago and I'm out of the loop now.

    2. Try The National on Lexington and 50th Street. The Smith also opened a second location on Second Avenue and 51st Street though I have not dined there yet.
