Assuming you've got the you tiao all wrapped up, and with a distinct lack of good Indian fry bread in the area (certainly you must have tried Fry Bread House during your time in Phoenix), what about Hungarian lángos?

I love the bacon-cheddar flatbread at Clementine. It's just $3.50 and worth every penny. They also have chorizo-pepper jack which I haven't tried.

Doesn't qualify as "donut" since they're not fried, but Fonuts has bacon maple and chroizo cheddar flavors. Obviously since they weren't fried, the bacon maple I tried tasted more cake-ish.
