Happy Tea Turns Into Whatever; Shades of East West Sandwiches
Since I hadn't been in the San Gabriel Valley in a couple of weeks I was hoping I might spot some new developments. Indeed I did on the SW corner of Las Tunas and Mission, where Happy Tea, the boba and snack shop, is papered over. According to the signage the new occupant will be a lounge called Whatever, and they plan to open next month. And on the other side of Lao Bian Dumpling, the non-dumpling house, is D'ange, a newly opened sandwich shop and bakery. On the bakery side you'll see typical modern Chinese baked goods. The sandwich menu is mostly western sandwiches ranging from pulled pork to Italian vegetables. However sandwich #10 of 10 sounds intriguing--curry seafood sandwich made with shrimp, imitation crab and egg. This sounds like something they would have served at the departed and much missed East West Sandwiches in Westwood Village. Since today is buffet Friday I only bought a Mexican bun, but I need to go back for that sandwich. D'ange is in unit 400 at 800 W. Las Tunas Dr. in San Gabriel.
On another note, the most occupied restaurant location in the San Gabriel Valley, 321 W. Valley Bl. in Monterey Park, would seem to be available again as Veggie World has closed down.

Totally intrigued by "buffet Friday" ! I sure hope you post about it. I am always interested in decent buffets, I know you have mentioned Osaka(previously W.C. Seafood buffet) in prior buffet discussions. I lived around the corner from Zen Buffet and it's previous permutations for many years, and "when" it was good, it could be very good if you picked your way carefully through the steam tables.
Thanks again for your intell on the SGV dining scene, very entertaining and informative.›2 Replies-
