La Sirena Gorda - closed

How can this be?!?

A most distressing bit of food news: CityPages reports that my favorite spot in Midtown Global Market, La Sirena Gorda, closed yesterday.

What a bummer. The seafood soup there was one of the best things I've ever eaten.

That's such a shame. La Sirena Gorda was a seafood option - the octopus tacos will be missed. What makes it even more of a blow is that with the seasonal closing of Sea Salt, there are no decent seafood options (not counting sushi options) during the winter that are casual, good quality, and don't cost an arm and a leg.

Waaaaa! I loved La Serena Gorda's food. I feel terrible about being too busy to get there often enough. I wish Alfonso Menéndez well in his next endeavor - I've got my fingers crossed for a food truck.

oh, man! that just. . . blows. too many taco/torta places under one roof for the seafood place to stay open selling at a buck higher price point? too long and brutal a beating from the lame economy, taking down the smallest of storefronts? maybe he's tired and making a career switch into something lucrative with healthcare. maybe he's outfitting a food truck for next spring?

              bummed. :(
