Sabor - Worth the Groupon?

  • 6

We're dining in Plymouth Saturday night and lo and behold I get a push e-mail from Groupon offering a deal at Sabor. Any recent experiences?

  1. You might have better luck posting this query on the Southern New England board; Plymouth restaurants rarely get discussed on the Greater Boston board.

I respectfully disagree. Plymouth has been equally discussed on both boards (which is not much) and, geographically speaking, falls somewhere in between the two boards.

I'm sure someone will disagree but Sabor is not high on my Plymouth list. You could do worse for sure, maybe the discount makes up for their weaknesses. I occasionally hear a good word about them, but they had a major kitchen/waitstaff defection after a brief opening of a second now defunct location, and it appears they have not recovered from that loss of talent. I have not been back myself in over 2 years and the local buzz is nonexistent.

On a side note I personally believe that Groupon now signals a restaurants demise.

I've had the same feeling about Groupon for a while, and have been saying so out loud for a bit less. I'm frankly amazed their IPO finally happened; I was sure they'd run out of cash first.

Groupon is doing well, the question is how are the restaurants doing after they run a groupon promotion? Also while restaurants may be struggling some I feel plenty of good restaurants have run a "groupon" promotion. Basho, Cafe Barada, Petit Robert Bistro, Flora, Tango and Blue Ribbon BBQ come to mind as some of the better ones I've used. I would potentially go back to all of these places without a groupon type deal except for Basho and Tango. Basho is worth it with the groupon deal though and they have gotten me back for 3 visits with a groupon type promotion. I feel while groupon is the hot thing now, are restaurants and other businesses going to be able to continue to afford to run these promotions? If they can I think groupon and co. will do well.

So, what is high on your Plymouth list?
