I like the atmosphere and the steak at Uncle Jack's, just have to tell them not to over season it . They tend to season the steaks for you . I am no fan of frankie and johnnies , ben benson is OK. But i'd pick Uncle Jack's .. I just saw phreddy's post,,, i thought wolfgang would be too far, Wolfgang has the best steak in the city in my opinion.

Of Ben Benson's, Bobby Van's, Uncle Jack's and Wolfgang's E 54th Street location, which would you choose? Looking for a steakhouse in the E or W 50s. Thanks for any comments.

        Wolfgang's . NO CONTEST.

BB, BV, UJ are all third tier steakhouses.

Thanks for your comments, thegforceny. Have you been to Wolfgang's lately? How much does a rib eye run at Wolfgang's? There are no prices on their website or on menupages. Is it Market Price? http://www.wolfgangssteakhouse.net/mi...

I exclusively order porterhouse for two at WG. I greatly prefer 32nd street/Park location but was at WG's 54th about 2 months ago and it was very very good. Like any top tier steak house, it aint cheap.

Crowd at 54th that night was quite comical. Think portly old B&T men with young Russian hookers teetering above them on stilettos. I find food and crowd better at Park location, but it is very loud because of its design.

I hear Ben Benson's closing soon? Not sure when your meal date is. Their last day of business is June 17. http://ny.eater.com/archives/2012/05/...

Ben Benson's is closing on Father's day (they are one of my clients).....Uncle Jack's is eh...Wolfgang's is very good.....Wolfgang's also has an eastside location on the corner of 33rd and Park Ave.

Of all the usual suspects on the list so far, I strongly prefer Frankie and Johnnies and Ben Bensons; least favs are Uncle Jack's and Bobby Vans.

I like Wolfgangs, Sparks, Uncle Jacks, and Bobby Vans probably in that order.

Ben Benson's pissed me off badly a decade or more ago... never been back

Keens is our favorite steakhouse, so that's too bad. Haven't been to the ones you mention, but...

I would recommend Wolfgang's on 54th Street. We recently had an excellent dinner there. The porterhouse was excellent, as were the sides and everything else. Friendly, attentive service. Very nice ambiance.

Just wondering if you thought it was overly noisy. I know you have mentioned before when places were loud and I have seen other posts saying this about Wolfgang's, though the Tribeca location is supposedly not so bad.

I am considering going here for my husband's birthday in December -- he is a Luger lover but I want to go someplace else and since we are a group of 6, I don't want to go someplace that is insanely noisy.

You are right that insanely high noise levels are a huge turn-off for me.

The posts you may have seen about Wolfgang's being loud pertained to the flagship on 33rd St. We have been there once, but because it was a Sunday night and not very busy, we did not encounter a problem with noise. However, there have been many reports that when the dining room is full and the bar area is packed, the noise level gets hideously high. The reason stems from the design of the interior, which is landmarked. The space was designed by Gustavino and includes a ceiling that while gorgeous tends to make the noise level much higher than an ordinary ceiling would, (Gustanvino, btw, also designed the interior of the rand Central Terminal.)

The 54th Street location is not overly noisy, which makes for a very pleasant, conversation-friendly dining experience.
