ROAD TRIP ...FL to LA to TX to CO to UT to to CA... Nov 2011

We're driving from FL (and stopping) through the following next week:
Marshall TX
Amarillo TX
Colorado Springs/Fountain CO
Grand Lake CO
Wendover UT
Reno NV

Traveling with animals, staying in pet friendly cheap motels, really need good recommendations for Lunch/Dinners each afternoon/evening - no fast food, (chain restaurants not preferred, but OK as a last resort) ...... would like to find decent food at reasonable prices, either dine-in or To-Go.

No fine dining (can't leave animals in motel long) or alcohol. We love good food, and ethnic foods, don't care about atmosphere, just good local food, we'll be tired from the road.

Any suggestions are very much appreciated! Thanks!

  1. Reno recommendations:
Reno is king of all-you-can eat sushi and I think the best is Hiroba Sushi. The problem with Hiroba is that it is popular. Unless you go at an off-peak eating time, expect a wait.
We also have a couple of Basque Hotels that are serving good dinners: Santa Fe Hotel and Louie's Basque Corner.
There's some new restaurants, some of which have been discussed on the board: Midtown Eats, Bowl, 168 Cafe (authentic Chinese food).
I don't know if you like Thai food but just about all the Thai restaurants are good.
El Tumi is a Peruvian restaurant. Several posts about it on Chowhound.
Lots of good Mexican restaurants. Miguel's has a killer shrimp enchilada.
For pizza, consider Brugo's or Boulevard. A friend is a real fan of Grimaldi's.
Carolina Kitchen and Famous Dave's (a chain) are my two favorite Barbecue places.
