pre marathon midtown west

Looking for a pre race pasta meal for a group of 5 near 53rd & 7th. Would like very good food, must take reservations because we don't want to stand around, and not too pricey because we won't be able to be too adventurous the night before the race. Please help!

Look at opentable.com and see what is available in Midtown West and Upper West Side under Italian. A lot is already booked for 6PM. In midtown you are near the theater district so there is competition for 6PM seats (I have my pre race dinner early, just works better for me) There is still space at Arte Cafe on the Upper West, and Puttanesca in midtown. If you go upper west, eat at 5:30 and see the fireworks near the finish line at 7:30

Can you clarify what you mean by "not too pricey"? How much do you want to spend per person before tax, tip, drinks/wine?

maybe $40 for two courses

Basso56 should suit you nicely; check and see if you can get a table though, as before the marathon it may be quite difficult to get seating at a pasta restaurant in that area
