In the French Quarter, on foot, with a 10 month old in early Dec.
Got some great recs but had to rule out several as I don't think diners at the higher end places would appreciate my little monster making appreciative shrieks of delight while she gums her po'boy! Also, several people recommended places that you'd have to take a taxi or the trolley--bummer. We like to eat just about anything but cheap eats really make our day.
These places have been noted so far:
Gumbo Shop in the FQ
Mena's Palace is a local's favorite that serves NOLA comfort food for breakfast and lunch.
Johnny's Po Boy's is in the FQ on St. Louis and has outstanding po boys.
Rampart Food Store has good po boys.
Cafe Maspero serves very good reasonable NOLA cuisine also. .
Trolley Stop Cafe @ 1923 Saint Charles Avenue, New Orleans, LA 504 - 523 - 0090.
Mr. Bs on royal st. for bbq shrimp.
ACME oyster house for oysters
We wish the crescent pie and sausage place was closer!! Also wish Deannie's was closer!!
Any other good suggestions? thanks a bunch.
