Recommendations for Asian Food With Fantastic Ambiance?

LindayMalia Nov 2, 2011 05:34 AM

Two friends are visiting from Paris and are interested in having great Asian/Thai food this Friday. They really want a great ambiance, good drinks, as well as good food. Are Betel or Kittichai good options? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe Kin Shop or Fatty Cue? I've definitely heard good things about Kittichai, but can't speak from experience.

Fatty Cue would be my pick as well: excellent cocktails, a nice room, great service, and wonderful food.

Depends what you're looking for. "Asian" can mean 30 different things, after all.

But limiting it to Thai, yeah, Kittichai or Kin Shop are your best bets. Kittichai were always decent, but I think they've gotten better since Chef Ty Bellingham took over. The previous (namesake) chef used to import pre-ground (if good quality) curries and pastes from Thailand, but Bellingham grinds everything fresh daily. Makes a difference (if more work for the kitchen staff...) - and it's a "sceney" place if that's the sort of ambience you're looking for. Kin Shop is also sceney, but in a different way - more boisterous, more casual.

If you're looking for ANY Asian cuisine, though - let the floodgates open. Dozens of options...

Thanks everyone! We ended up going to Betel afterall. The food was very strong, but we thought the drinks were way overpriced!
