Fresh Fresno chilis

Anyone know where I can purchase fresh red jalapeño chilis (aka Fresno chilis) in Brooklyn?

  1. Not Brooklyn, but I know you can buy these at Mi Tierra, the huge pan-S. American grocery store on Northern Blvd. in Jax Heights, Queens. Saw them there on Sunday, along with about a dozen other varieties of chilis. :)

What are Fresno chilis used for? Just curious, as not sure I have ever seen one.

I'm going to pickle them. Nice recipe in Nancy Silverton's new cookbook. Mozza.

    2. Again, not Brooklyn, but I believe that you can find them at Ted Blew in the Union Square Greenmarket.

I just checked at Ted Blew and they do NOT have Fresno peppers.

I bought red jalapenos at the Sat farmers market in Brooklyn, 4th Ave and 60th Street.
I think I saw some at the Park Slope 3rd Street/Fifth Ave Sunday market too. Farmers markets are definitely a place to check if red jalapenos are what you are looking for; the big chinese supermarkets often have them too. It is sort of late for local product, however., especially given the recent weather conditions.
