Simple Bistro minus Masayuki

A friend mentioned he left Simple. I don't know why. On the website for Simple and on Chef Db, Matthew Cowan is listed as the chef. The $40 prix fixe we had, not too long ago, was stellar. If it was Matthew Cowan cooking that night, then it would stand as one of the best meals I've had there.

Four of went last week and found it very good. Three of us had the lamb (creatures of habit) and one had a veal chop (pre-ordered). Service was good. Must say it was still loud though.

Made my first visit to Simple last night (after passing the place on my way to the Toronto Camera Club for years), and was very impressed. The food was delicious (we had the pea soup, sweetbreads, duck confit, lemon tart and sticky toffee pudding), but what really impressed was the service. Everyone was very friendly, and when they noticed that I had brought a 1990 Burgundy, they whisked away the generic wine glasses and brought us Burgundy stems.

      At the $40 prix fixe price, with $10 corkage (Sunday-Wednesday - I think it's $25 Thursday-Saturday) it's a good deal.
