Downtown/Midtown Sacramento Restaurants

Just moved to the burbs of Sacramento and have yet to go to any restaurants in downtown/midtown area except Tres Hermanas (very good btw). Later this month my wife and I are going to go for a nice dinner out. From everything I have read I have narrowed it down to a couple places. Would love input;

Ella Dining Room and Bar
The WaterBoy
Tuli Bistro
The Press Bistro and Bar

i actualy like all these places so i'm not a good one to answer but we recenty had dinner at the press for first time and it was very good. we've gone to many "special"dinners at ella and always good

I thought I had posted a review of our dinner, but apparently I did not! My apologies!

We ended up going to The Waterboy. It was very good. Not amazing, but good none the less. Alas they have changed their menu since we ate there so I can't post reviews of exactly what we ate. The meal was very good, but the desert was very disappointing. We got the Apple Crostada. Honestly the Pepperidge Farm Apple Turnovers are better.

Fun little restaurant though, with a good atmosphere.

I've eaten at Ella, Waterboy, and Mulvaney's, and would rate them in that order. Ella had oysters, which scores major points. Girlfriend was introduced to affogato at Waterboy, and I love their highchairs.

I applied at Tuli and got a really good vibe there, apparently the chef used to work at Bouchon. I understand they recently opened a new joint, if I end up in Sacramento I will certainly try to get in there.

I actually preferred Mulvaney's the most out of all three, but I do agree that they are all worthy choices. The nice part about Mulvaney's is its extremely reasonable lunch prices.

The first three for sure. We enjoy Spataro's very much too. Biba's....of course. Get the Sweetbreads at The Waterboy. Mulvaney's is another fabulous choice!!!

Thanks y'all! We moved here from Lubbock, TX (chain capitol of the world) so it is nice to have good local restaurants again!

My favorites are Tuli bistro and Magpie Cafe. I actually like them better than Waterboy. For small plates, I would recommend Press Bistro. I do like Ella, but haven't been there since they changed chefs. Spataro was solid. Other places that are spoken highly of are Firehouse, Biba's. I didn't like Grange at all. Lots to try out. ella is very good food...but service can be very rude in my opinion.
we went to press for tapas and liked it very much; have had freinds that had regular dinner there and didn't care for it
