On Milwaukee's best Chinese - yet another disagreement

Several families that have come here from both the Mainland and Hong Kong suggest this place:
Fortune Restaurant‎
2945 South 108th Street
Milwaukee, WI 53227
(414) 328-9890‎

It seems to be a staple for special birthdays/celebrations/etc. We were taken there by one family that pre-ordered a "traditional special meal" that was only done for groups of six or more - very well done and tasty. I know that there are many cuisines in China, but families from the varying areas always suggest this place.

A former co-worker from the Mainland said that he went out of his way to get groceries around the corner from Fortune at
Mei Hua Market‎
10706 West Oklahoma Avenue
Milwaukee, WI 53227-4144
(414) 328-8980
But I was not as impressed with them as I have been other Asian supply stores.

  1. Oh gosh...I am not Asian, but the Fortune in Hales Corners (same family) is far superior to the Fortune in West Allis as far as my western tastes are concerned. A few of the Asian people I work with concur...better chicken feet and fish eye balls (for example) at Fortune Hales Corners.

    1. An Asian market opened last year on 27th street, Pacific Produce (5455 S. 27th St.), an Asian supermarket located in a building that once housed a Kohl’s grocery store. I haven't gone but friends have and were impressed by the variety of produce, fish and Asian staples.

I second Living4funs rec of Pacific Seafood and Produce. The store, the carry out place inside as well as the Vietnamese place next door are unlike anything else in the Milwaukee area.

I have to recommend it as well- where I get my crabs.
A co-worker drove past there every day to let me know when it was actually open.
They have saved me many a trip to flatland territory for supplies. However, I will be doing a trip with a couple of friends to Super H, Ashai (spelling?) foods, Fresh Market and International Imports (all off of the same exit) sometime this week to help out a neighbor.
