Dinner for a party of 8? (Joe Beef too small!) Recos please?
I'm heading to Montreal the weekend of Nov. 19th. Am looking for a French restaurant (preferably something with a twist/modern, although I am not opposed to a classic French restaurant). I had a reso at Joe Beef for six, but will have to find a larger establishment as my party size has now increased to eight.
I don't want to eat somewhere too stodgy/uptight -- we're all in our early 30s so are looking for a resto with a good buzz and decent atmosphere as well.
I hear Europea is nice but the room seems a little too 'refined'/quiet for what I might be looking for? What about Le Cinquieme Peche? I figure APDC will take a party of eight but I have been there before so don't want to do it again.
Suggestions would be much appreciated!
Need help as I am running out of time and I must secure a large table ;-o

I will second La Salle a Manger -though not technically French (but still as French as JB and APDC). Also look at Le Filet which is good and has a nice vibe. My hunch is that given your first two options, that Club Chasse et Peche might be a bitt too stuffy for you as would Europea by far.

Also consider Club Chasse et Peche in Old Montreal. It fits the bill for French that is more on the hip and trendy side. Generally good food and nice wine list. Cool location in an historic building. I've been there with a larger group before, but you should try to book early.
Cinquieme péché will do it, I've seen a table of 8-ish people there at their new location.
you could also try "3 petits bouchons" (we've been there with 8); you could try "Cuisine/Dépendance"; they have a larger table at the back; you could try Lemeac.
There's also "La Salle A Manger" that could fit you all.
