Birthday Pressure: Round Table for 8-10, not Chinese.

sfcitygal Oct 30, 2011 10:35 AM

Dreaded annual birthday dinner is on. I'd like a moderate-upscale restaurant that feels a bit special. It will be a Tuesday evening. Good quality food with entrees $18-$30 range. Ideally, full bar, but not essential. I hate larger table gatherings where you may get seated on the end and stuck talking with only 1-2 people seated beside you. I love round tables since they are more conducive to group feeling and conversation. Are there any restaurants that come to mind....that aren't Chinese??? Ideally, quality Californian, Mediterranean cuisine? For a group of fun, social 40's professionals. Thank you so much for any suggestions.

Coco500 has a full bar and large round tables. I had a great birthday dinner there several years back.

Cesar on Piedmont has a private room with a round table about that size.

So does Lalime's, though I haven't seen any reports lately about the food.

I think so too. Piperade has a big square table, and is a very quiet restaurant overall.

Perbacco has rounds upstairs. We fit 5 easily, you could see if there's anything larger.

I went and checked out a few of the places. Piperade's table is GORGEOUS! Round and with 8 large leather chairs around it. Really a beautiful spot for a special dinner. That's where I'm heading...and will hope the food and service is "on" for the eve.
