Indonesia - Soto Ayam at Malioboro Country

It was the Indonesian equivalent of "chicken soup for the soul", sheer comfort food in Jl Malioboro, Jogjakarta's main comercial drag - yep, that busy 1 mile stretch full of souvenir stores, kiosks, "andong" (horse-carriages), "becak" (3-wheeled trishaws), "waroeng" (street-side pushcarts) many vending all sorts of street eats, and the largest human wave I'd seen in a long time.
Soto Ayam 61, a small, popular eatery occupied a strategic location amidst all the hustle & bustle on this lively strip - it's located right across the street from the popular Malioboro Mall.Opened in 1977, Soto Ayam 61's claim to fame was its "soto ayam", a light Javanese chicken soup with chicken meat, glass noodles, rice & some shreds of Chinese lettuce in it. A little plastic decanter filled with blow-your-mouth-hot dark-soysauce-chillies dip was served by the side, plus a little saucer filled with lime wedges. Add a couple of squeezes of lime into your consomme (skip the soy-chilli thang unless you enjoy a tongue-searing experience), and the "soto ayam" here would be absolutely divine - light, clean-tasting soup, not too heavy on the stomach in a city famous for its "ayam goreng" (fried chicken) and "gudeg" (jackfruit curry).
