Pier Burger Route 66-New
During our normal Saturday morning walk on the the Santa Monica Pier, we noticed a new restaurant opening, Pier Burger Route 66. It's taken over an old burger joint across from Bubba Gump. I noticed that along with burgers, they will be serving real frozen custard. Upon talking with the manager, it's the Kings Seafood group that owns/operates Water Grill, Ocean Avenue Seafood, etc., trying their hand at burgers.
They expect to have their custard machine in a week or so, but will be serving their custard using the existing soft serve machines.
Real custard in LA at last? and hopefully a great place to eat on the Pier to boot.
They looked like they were still setting up, but should be open shortly.

Just tried the custard this morning. The place is open early for coffee (Peets), drinks and custard. Custard out of a soft serve machine was an interesting experience. The quality of the mix was such that I think I will wait for the real custard machine to arrive.
Hamburgers, etc. are available starting 10:30

I when there on Oct. 30 and let me tell you...the burgers at Pier Burger Route 66 are amazing. I have tried many burgers but this one is the best I have ever had. Even better than In N Out which is something I thought I would never say. The patties for the burgers are hand made and the bun slightly toasted and is warm and mouth watering. The fries are amazing too they are crisp and just the right amount of salty. After skating from Pacific Palisades to Venice and to Santa Monica Pier Burger is going to become my weekly Sunday lunch spot. This is a must try and I'm sure you won't be disappointing.

Come on, there are plenty of burgers much much better than the teeny patty burger you get from In n Out. These are different types of burgers, not fast food. In N' Out holds a special place in my heart (and and belly) with it's flavors, but it's a fast food place. Specialty burger places have bigger patties, and take the time to cook them. Plus any fries are better than In 'N Out's soggy fries.

re: Peripatetic
Ok maybe In N Out is not the "best" burger but it is the best fast food burger which can be bought on a regular basis like I do every Sunday... Unless you can afford to go to fancy restaurants and eat the "best" burgers then In N Out is the best... Also if you have not visited or had a Pier Burger then you should not be one to judge so fast. The Pier Burgers are amazing and perhaps the "best" fast food join burger I have ever had. Maybe even better than the burgers at Peter Luger in NY or Joe Allen in Paris France... I have had my share of burgers from around the country and the world so yes Pier Burgers are that amazing for their price they would beat out even The Apple Pan. PWNED.

I wasn't judging, I was just asking for a clarification. I was surprised because I've been to many places in LA that have what I thought were better burgers than In-N-Out. I like In-N-Out, and their burgers are unquestionably better than the ones you get from the frozen patty mills, but I would never suggest they were the gold standard for burgers.
