Eclectic, moderate South Beach
I'm visiting Miami for a work conference and the company is putting us up at the Ritz Carlton South Beach, which is great because I could never afford it. I know there's a thousand restaurants but what could you recommend that's moderately priced (under $20 mains) and different. I'll be in South Beach but hope to get to Little Havana for an afternoon. Any type of food is good, although I tend to steer away from heavy meat places. Thanks!

You could try El Chalan or Bernies La Cafe (hole in the wall type places but good food), or one of the Pubbellys (Pubbelly, Pubbelly Sushi, Barceloneta). If you try the pubbellys, be warned that the dollar mileage varies greatly between dishes.

I was walking near "El Chalan on the Beach" when I read this post, and thought to try it.
What a great spot! Unassuming and set back from the hubbub of ocean drive - the seafood (i only had seafood) is outstanding. The ceviche (mixed seafood) was fresh and bright and had "zing", the fish I ordered (an ajillo sauced fish) was beautifully cooked and the sauce had depth. A great suggestion amidst many, many tourist traps. Thank you!
Tap Tap is on 5th St., a bit of a haul from the Ritz, but if you feel like a walk it's a nice one. It's Haitian food and very reasonable (covering the "eclectic" and "moderate" requirements.
I've only been twice but I really enjoy Indomania which is only about a 5 block walk north from your hotel. The food definitely covers your "eclectic" request. I took a date there and we were properly full when we left and the bill, including a beer and glass of wine, was about $60 for the 2 of us after tax/tip.
