ISO of dinner in south LA or north OC area
We just moved to the Cerritos/Norwalk/Downey area. It's a cess-poll of chains. I know that Asian/Indian cuisine is prominent in the area, but I'm just not feeling any of that tonight. Willing to try anything else. Price point is anything up to $50 - $75 per person. A bar with drinks would be good, too. We're looking to try something new, and am willing to drive to south Orange County or up to downtown LA, if there's something really great.
In the area, we've been to Marino's in Bellflower, Off-Street Cafe in Artesia, TAPS in Brea, and Original Fish Company in Los Alamitos. Please help!
Thanks!
You said no Asian, so I assume that means no Thai (Renu Nakorn). Have you considered Anticuchería Danessi (Peruvian) in Norwalk? Kentro Greek Kitchen in Fullerton?
If you really meant it when you said south OC, what about trying to nab a res at Sol del Sur? Gabbi's Mexican in the Orange Circle? La Huasteca? La Casita Mexicana? Il Garage in Stanton?

I'm a fan on Renu Nakorn. And FYI, we tried Kentro Greek in Fullerton. Super yum! Thanks. We'll have to make it a point to go through your list of recs. Thanks, DU!

Look at the Haven Gastropub near the Orange Circle, or even Felix Continental Cafe, actually on the circle.
El Rocoto is good Peruvian near Cerritos, there is an old school Italian place in La Palma, Aroma Ristorante Trattoria. It is your basic Southern Italian place, but pretty good.
Depending on how far you consider north county, Downtown Disney has a couple of decent places, Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen and Joachim Splichal of Patina has Catal there. Napa Rose does a nice job as well especially at their Chef's Table.
And for lunch (when you need it) there is a Porto's Bakery (Cuban) in Downey.

More to add to the list...I've been to El Rocoto, and can't remember if I enjoyed it as much as other Peruvian places. We like the Jazz Kitchen for lunch...the blue cheese burger is really nice, but they've taken it off the menu. I'm a fan of the chicharrones from Catal. And Napa Rose is still on my list to try...perhaps I should.
And Porto's has been a once a month staple since we moved back into the area after a long absence.
Thanks!
