Monte's Delicatessen in Brooklyn

After my daughter was born in late 2009, she became the 4th generation of my family to be welcomed into the store. My Grandmother was a frequent customer, my Mother, myself, and now my little one.

Needless to say, I am confused as to the status of my most favorite eating establishment in the whole world.

Anybody know what happened? What the hey?

Also, outside of John's Deli (relatively little amount of meat per sammich), is there another Deli in the area that could stand up to my monumental regard for Montes' heroes?

Times have changed so has the area. I feel they are way too pricy . I remember there used to be a line to get lunch and you are in and out

I'm a little confused by your post. Are they closed? Has the quality gone south? What do you mean by status?

Sorry, I mean they're closed. I wasn't sure if they were moving or not, but the gates are locked and a big sign saying "COMING SOON, LAUNDROMAT"

Wow. They must have retired. I know they were there a long, long time. There is a similar place on 15th Avenue and 78th Street. Excellent sandwiches:

I just got a 6 ft sub from Monte's back in July, and it was delivered by a young guy so I'm not sure if this was a retirement. Too bad, as they were nice people and made great sandwiches; much better than Lioni IMO

Yeah, Rubano took over the place maybe like two years ago when Vinny retired. Things seemed to be running status quo, and I even went in there about two weeks before I saw that the gates were shuttered on a non-holiday monday afternoon. It's really heartbreaking to see that this place is closed, and not moving or anything.

Big news: Monte's is now reopened by its old workers under the name "Camille's Italian Specialties"! Address is 1811 McDonald Ave by Ave P. I haven't been myself, by a regular just messaged me to spread the word. There you have it!

I went to this place yesterday. It's at 1812 (not 1811) McDonald Ave. It goes by the name of Vitale & Monte, not Camile's. To my eyes, it's a regular Brooklyn hero joint, making Brooklyn style Italian and other cold-cut style heroes that you could get at dozens and dozens of other similar places in Brooklyn . They had pizza ovens installed, but the pizza operation is not up and running yet.
